For our Dec 20 meeting we’ve chosen “Conversations with Beethoven” by Sanford Friedman.
Library Journal Review
In his final work, Friedman (who taught creative writing at Juilliard), captures the months before Ludwig van Beethoven’s March 1827 death. Throughout, the depiction of early 1800s Vienna has a familiar ring, filled as it is with both celebrities and wannabes who sound contemporary. VERDICT Friedman successfully frames a picture of Beethoven’s turbulent genius and the conflict that arises from having fame without fortune. We will meet at Lorraine’s at 7:30 pm. Please let her know you will be with us. For further information, please call ESNW at 914-941-3544.
