Felix Adler was deeply rooted in the egalitarian prophetic tradition of Judaism which is dramatized in the Hanukah festival that begins this week. In 1982 Peter Yarrow wrote the song of our talk title, as a plea for peace during the Lebanese war which was then raging. He spoke of the “terrible sacrifice justice and freedom demand”, and asked for “the wisdom to know the peacemaker’s time is at hand”. In a concert in Jerusalem the song drew cheers from a politically mixed audience. Join guest speaker Jim White as he discusses the encouragement expressed by this song as we face both the expanding pandemic and a hopeful transition into difficult but better times. May this inspire us in our vital quest for unity in the times ahead.
Now retired, Jim White provided legal representation for psychiatric in-patients for 35 years, while also serving as part-time Ethical Culture Leader for both the Essex and Riverdale-Yonkers Societies. He is now a joyful, full-time Activist and Granddad.
