Winter festival was built around the children’s story Frederick by Leo Lionni but explored it through the lens of the winter solstice. Our children created art and narrative that answered the question “what is important (for the body and the mind) in preparing for winter?”
Next came Darwin Day. Last year we explored the “Distinction of Possible Extinction” and adopted a WWF endangered species – the African Penguin. This year we focused on the idea of how one of these endangered species might evolve to avoid extinction. The art and narratives created, ranged from a submarine that comes and saves the penguins, to the penguin evolving to have hollow bones and bigger wings so it could fly away from the melting sea ice. We also adopted another endangered species – the Snow Leopard.
