This Friday, May 5 at 7:30 PM at Ethical Culture Society of Westchester, there will be a screening of the film “DO NOT RESIST” with a discussion afterward. ”DO NOT RESIST” is an exploration into the militarization of the American Police force. The film offers a look at the current state of policing in America and a glimpse of what it means for America’s future. Starting on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, as the community grapples with the death of Michael Brown, the film puts viewers in the center of the action. Included are a ride-along with a South Carolina swat team and inside a police training seminar. It explores new technologies leading the field, including policing algorithms. The film merges the arts with a contemporary and critical social issue in the U.S. today. It is not an indictment against police officers, but an opportunity to create a dialogue among police leadership and the public, even when difficult and uncomfortable. In short, the film is a tool for police reform in our communities. The Ethical Culture Society of Westchester is located at 7 Saxon Woods Road in White Plains.
