This Sunday, December 8th, at 11:00 AM:
In Humanist circles, when people learn that I grew up Catholic, they sometimes ask how I came to leave the church. An easy answer would be that I married a Jewish man, but it was a journey from the village where I was born and the parish where I was baptized to my home in Brooklyn and Ethical Culture. Since the date of this platform falls on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8), it is an opportunity to reflect upon the path I traveled.
Anne Klaeysen is Leader Emerita (retired) of the New York Society for Ethical Culture.
She serves on the boards of the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture, The Encampment for Citizenship, and Ethical Culture Fieldston Schools. Anne holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Hebrew Union College in pastoral care, and master’s degrees in German from SUNY Albany and Business Administration from NYU.
