In the modern western world, monogamy is most often seen as the default for romantic relationship structures and is the only legally recognized form of marriage in America. There are countless arguments that have been made in defense of monogamy, but a majority of such arguments do not fully take into account all of the possibilities that lie outside of this strict realm. I will be making the case for polyamory to be seen as at least as ethically permissible of a relationship structure as monogamy, if not even better for some people in some cases.
Ashley Choate is currently in her Junior year as a cadet at the United States Military Academy. She is a Philosophy major and one of the cadets in charge of the West Point Humanist Association. She has had the opportunity to present some of the research she has done within the realm of Philosophy at a few different undergraduate conferences over the last couple of years and is looking forward to progressing her research and taking opportunities to share with others the topics she cares deeply about.
