What does it mean to be a community of courage? What does it mean to be a person of courage? Jone Johnson Lewis will consider what it means to be courageous or brave as we learn to speak across differences. How can we honestly express ourselves, especially when there are historical social power differences (race, sex, ability, other identities)? How can we listen even when we want to be defensive (“That doesn’t apply to ME, I’m the exception!”)? Can we be both sensitive and honest? What does it take to muster the courage to both speak honestly and listen compassionately?
Jone Johnson Lewis is the Leader of the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture and has served as Leader of 3 other Ethical Societies.
