The Thursday, July 20th program at the Ossining Public Library will present Ava DuVernay’s documentary ‘13th’, about the Amendment that abolished slavery – with one exception. The ‘13th’ chronicles how America preserves slavery’s essence by criminalizing Black lives. The journey from Emancipation to mass incarceration is told with bracing lucidity through a potent mixture of archival footage and testimony from a dazzling array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men. The program will include a Post-Screening Q&A with Rev. Dr. Darren Ferguson (Preacher and Social Activist), Kahlil Karomantee (Author and Life Coach) and Shannon Wong (Director of Lower Hudson Valley Chapter of NYCLU).
