On Thursday, September 14th, 2017 at 6:30 pm, the Ossining Documentary & Discussion Series will screen the documentary ‘Awake – A Dream from Standing Rock’ at the Ossining Public Library followed by panel discussion. ‘Awake’ follows the rise of the peaceful native-led #NODAPL resistance at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota capturing the world’s attention. Thousands of activists from across the country traveled to Standing Rock to support the Sioux water protectors protesting the construction of the $3.7 billion Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). This project, if built, will carry fracked oil from North Dakota’s Bakken oil fields through sovereign land and Missouri River, the water source for Standing Rock and 17 million people downstream. While President Trump has authorized DAPL, the fight continues in the courts and the resistance at Standing Rock has awakened the nation to fossil fuel infrastructure projects and the fight for indigenous sovereignty.
