Update from the Feb 23rd meeting – what you can do now: Call and/or write to your representatives to say you support allowing the thousands of already vetted refugees to enter the country without delay, as the current administration has suspended the US Refugee Admissions Program.
The Westchester Refugee Task Force is a coalition of over 30 religious, civic, and advocacy organizations who all believe in helping settle refugees in Westchester. Refugees are those people who have been vetted by the US government – a lengthy process that takes around two years. They are people from many different countries, of many different religions. The WRTF is working with the State Department approved refugee resettlement agencies: Church World Service, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, International Rescue Committee, US Conf. of Catholic Bishops, Ethiopian Community Dev. Council, Episcopal Migration Ministries, US Committee for Refugees & Immigrants, Lutheran Immigration & Refugee Services and the World Relief Corporation.
This was the screening process during the Obama administration. This is a “frozen in time” site, as the current administration has abandoned it.
