Each year at harvest time, ESNW joins other chapters of the American Ethical Union in a feast and fun time that emphasizes the virtue of sharing. Eat, drink, sing, and be merry. And, of course, bring something to share.
Through camaraderie, entertainment, and conversations, we will share of ourselves – just like in the ancient story of “Stone Soup”
For the uninitiated, here’s what “Stone Soup” is about. Two soldiers walking home from the war stop at a town and ask for some bread. The poor residents refuse. The soldiers invite the residents to share stone soup with them. The curious residents bring out a great pot. The Soldiers place stones into the pot of water and light the fire. They then ask whether anyone could spare a little salt. A potato? Stalk of celery? Etc. You get the drift. Finally everyone shares the rich stone soup together.
A lesson in sharing.
