Special Workshop with Ethical Leader Jone Johnson Lewis
Sunday, October 1, at 1PM after the Sunday Program
About 55% of American adults identified as White don’t believe that anti-Black racism is a problem today – either that it doesn’t exist, that it’s okay, or that anti-White racism is worse. Let’s call those people “racism skeptics.” If that percent were more like 45%, then we’d probably be able to establish more policies to dismantle systemic racism. We don’t even have to convince the extremists, just enough on the margins who are good-hearted people who just haven’t examined their beliefs recently.
If you’re among those White adults who do understand that anti-Black racism exists, and you want to be an ally in making change, then one way you can help is to have effective, influential conversations with racism skeptics. Minds do change when we communicate in ways that “bring out the best.”
In this workshop, Ethical Leader Jone Johnson Lewis will introduce a conversational method that has been proven effective in many interactions, for White people who understand that anti-Black racism is real to be able to talk to their White friends and family members who are racism skeptics.
Join us for a 90-minute introduction to this technique, with some time to practice. All are welcome.
Much appreciate if you can let us know if you will be attending the workshop by emailing robertjberson@icloud.com.
