SATURDAY MAY 11 4PM: Enslaved Africans at Van Cortlandt Plantation
A One-Hour Presentation Saturday at RYSEC Meeting House.
The story of enslaved Africans on the Van Cortlandt property has been merely a footnote – until now. Primary source documents and images of prominent structures, built by enslaved Africans on the Van Cortlandt plantation, illustrate the African presence in early New York. Forced immigration and the institution of slavery not only made the Van Cortlandt family prosperous, but also increased the wealth of the regional, national, and international economy. This growth occurred at the expense of black lives that suffered centuries of injustice. This program is designed for adults. Children 12 and under are not advised to attend.

MAY 15 – What’s the Story of Your Racial Journey?
Join REPAIR (Rivertowns Episcopal Parishes Action on Inclusion and Race) on Wednesday, May 15, for THE GEOGRAPHY OF RACE: SHARING OUR JOURNEYS OF THE HEART.
REPAIR members will share three very different, very personal stories of race, recounting moments when they faced painful challenges, describing how they responded, and exploring the insights that have impacted their lives ever since. You’ll be invited to reflect on and respond to their stories and, if you feel so moved, to share a moment from your own journey toward deeper self-knowledge and understanding
around race. Trinity Church, 7 South HIghland Avenue, Ossining

A dancer, actor, playwright, teacher and now autobiographer, Glory has given us a fierce and telling memoir of a woman whose talent, self-confidence and sheer bravado can inspire us all. There are never enough stories of strong women who have risen above the endemic sexism of show business to use all their gifts.
