“CAN AI BE TAMED?” with Sebastian Benthall, Senior Research Fellow, New York University

September 30, 2024 by Robin

Watch the full platform here.

Sunday, October 6th, 2024

As AI makes its way into our lives, we see that along with the great potential, there are significant risks, including deepfakes and disinformation, massive job losses, security threats, loss of human interaction, and an uncontrollable self-aware AI. However, laws and regulations have been slow to address these outcomes. Can a legal response effectively lower the risks of AI while allowing us to reap its benefits? Join Sebastian Benthall as he explores how AI is regulated in Europe and the United States and whether these safeguards will be enough and what action people can take to reduce risk in a world with more AI.

Dr. Sebastian Benthall is a Senior Research Fellow at the Information Law Institute at the New York University School of Law and a Research Scientist at the International Computer Science Institute. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Future of Life Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Microsoft Corporation. He is also a member of the Westchester Community for Ethical Culture.
